Coast & Beach

The Mar Menor is the largest natural lagoon in Europe. When it comes to beaches the Mar Menor has a lot to offer. Virtually all of the beaches are blue flag rated and sandy. The waters are 5 degrees warmer than in the Mediterranean Sea, and also much shallower and saltier, making an ideal bathing environment for children (salt helps you float).  Great care and attention is paid to litter collection, and lifeguards/police patrols operate in popular spots.

Many of the local beaches on the Mar Menor coast are well known for the therapeutic clay which can be found by wading out in the water , this is full of minerals and salts and the local folk cover their skin with it and bake in the sun . This is said to be good for skin complaints , rheumatism and arthritis among other things .
